Going Social with CRM--How Social Media is Turning Sales Upside Down

Kathy and I both attended the session given by Shane Gibson.  He is the co-author of the book "Sociable!" which he gave us all a copy of.  The premise is that you tend to believe the opinion or recommendation of a friend or business associate more than you would believe corporate messages.  He gave examples of places that you can search on social media such as:
http://search.twitter.com/
http://google.com/alerts
http://blogsearch.google.com/
http://facebook.com/search
http://linkedin.com/signal

He spoke about the levels of engagement of people using social media -- the disengaged, passively engaged, reactively engaged, proactively engaged, and the best form, which is thought leadership

He discussed #SCRM Rules of Engagement, which can be found in his book.  I look forward to reading it.  I thought he was a really good speaker and what he had to say made a lot of sense.  See also #CRM

  1. Just a couple more thoughts about this topic/session: The Rules of Engagement for being a successful social Media player: 1) Stop pitching and start connecting (don't just post it to post it, actively listen to people's responses and respond actively. 2) Doers win the social media game, don't just post and sit back and wait 3) It's not all about what you have to say. 4) Be fearless in your conversations. (to a certain degree of course!) 5) Don't be a social spammer, energize others. 6) Be authentic 7) Be consistent. Get involved and stay involved!
